👋 Hello! I’m Tom.

Ur view when we get IC in 3 months time.

Ur view when we get IC in 3 months time.

I am an exceptional marketer, storyteller, and systems-thinker with a highly technical background.

I have 4+ years experience aggressively growing startups, and a lifetime of figuring things out from first principles—now I’m looking for a technical cofounder to start a company with.

Over the next 10+ years I want to build a business with the potential to change the world… potentially with you. 😃

Date me? 💔

Co-found a company with me? 🚀

❓ Q&A with the author

Q: Tom, why write this doc? Seems a bit extra…

A: I’m a better writer than speaker. So if you’re considering joining a team with me, I wanted to give you the opportunity to evaluate me in a format that honestly reflects my skills and disposition. This doc explains my skills, what I’m looking for, some ideas I like, and shows how extra I am. :)

Q: Are you really “an exceptional marketer and storyteller”? Sounds a bit grandiose bro.

A: A prominent founder in SF told me I was in the “top 1% of marketers in tech”. And my personal blog has been read ~1.5m times. My writing has led to dozens of inbound job opportunities for me, and millions of dollars in revenue for the startups I’ve led marketing (and more) at.

I write words that make people feel things—then make them get out their wallets. 💸

Q: What’s this “highly technical background” ??

A: I finished top of the Maths & Physical Sciences faculty at UCL 4 years in a row, winning big $$ scholarships. I’ve also published ML research (Bayesian Methods in geophysics) and shipped ML code at a startup which has been used by 19 million people 😀

Unlike many “commercial” people, I am not at all afraid of technical people or technical problems.

Q: Why do you mention “figuring things out from first principles”?

A: I’ve always been driven to figure things out for myself. And I moved around a lot as a kid: at least 10 different times. To survive, I needed to rapidly understand the social and cultural dynamics of the new environment I was thrust into.

I’ve had to sink or swim in unfamiliar environments my whole life.

This led me to Git Gud ™️ at first-principles thinking, and quickly building rapport with new people. Luckily for you, that’s exactly what we’ll be doing at our new startup. 😎
